The Indigenous Videos Series were developed by the Indigenous Advisory Group, Stillbirth CRE as part of addressing stillbirth prevention and bereavement care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. The development of these videos was led by Deanna Stuart-Butler, Senior Advisor of the Stillbirth CRE’s Indigenous research projects and descendant of the Arabana people of the “Pantu Parnda” (Lake Eyre) Region of South Australia.
The purpose of these videos is to help raise awareness about stillbirth, also known in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities as “Sorry Business Babies” and highlight the work that is being done to prevent the tragedy. These videos are primarily aimed at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, families, and communities as well as the health care professionals who provide care and support.
The first video is five minutes long and it introduces the Stillbirth CRE Indigenous Advisory Group. This group consists of National representatives from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander maternity health space. This includes Indigenous and non-Indigenous women and men who are clinicians, researchers, and policymakers. They work with the Stillbirth CRE to advise all programs, projects, and activities that impact the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and provide guidance on the program deliverables.

An Indigenous artwork titled “Protection” has been used throughout this video series. This artwork was commissioned by the Stillbirth CRE and created by Leona McGrath, who is a Woopaburra and Kuku Yalanji woman from Queensland and an Indigenous Advisory Group member of the Stillbirth CRE. The Stillbirth CRE is soon launching the Safer Baby Bundle Indigenous Masterclass that aims to educate health care professionals on using the Safer Baby Bundle resources while providing care to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, families, and communities.
Please Note: Throughout our documents, we use the term ‘Indigenous’ to refer to people who identify as Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, or both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. We do this to show respect because the people Indigenous to individual States, jurisdictions and Country within our Nation may prefer different terms. We also acknowledge and respect that many ‘Indigenous’ Australians prefer to be known by their specific language group(s). We would also like to acknowledge and respect our relationship with ‘Indigenous’ peoples Internationally.
