Associate Professor Brad Farrant

Bereaved parent; Researcher

Brad and Jaime Farrant’s daughter Kaya died two hours before she was born on the 6th of August 2011. This came as a complete shock as none of the medical staff we had contact with throughout the pregnancy had expressed any concern that Kaya’s life was in any kind of danger. Kaya’s growth had slowed significantly, this had not been detected and contributed to her death. We believe that her death was entirely preventable. Four years after the birth of Kaya, our daughter Djuna was born. Djuna’s growth had also slowed, however given the increased monitoring we received we were able to intervene in time and assist her birth. Djuna is now a healthy and fun 9-year-old and for that we are immensely grateful. Brad is also a researcher who has been at the Telethon Kids Institute since 2010.
